The historic Grand Union Hotel, located in Fort Benton, is now on the market for purchase.

With construction finishing in 1882, the Grand Union Hotel is Montana’s oldest operating hotel and is both a state and national landmark. Once proclaimed to be the finest hotel between St. Louis and Seattle, the hotel was built during the height of Fort Benton’s prosperity.

Standing on the banks of the Missouri River, the hotel features 26 guest rooms, a fine dining restaurant, and a saloon serving premium Montana brews and wines.

The hotel was bought by the current owners in 1995 and underwent renovations from 1995 to 1999 that earned special awards and recognition for resorting the building to its former beauty. Before then, the building was left abandoned for nearly 10 years.

Cheryl Gagnon, the owner of the Grand Union Hotel, says she hopes the new owners will love the hotel and its history as much as she does.

“My goal is to find someone who shares the passion for the history and a passion for this building and preserving it," she said. "We’ve had so many amazing events here, weddings, anniversary parties, huge events that have just been fantastic and I want someone to carry on what we’ve started.”

The Grand Union Hotel is currently listed on the market for $1,750,000.
