BOZEMAN — The Museum of the Rockies is an icon for the state’s history and this summer it has been busier than ever.

As of today, the museum marked a new record for visitors over the course of one summer: More than 9,000 additional people passed through the doors.

Museum staff say it was typical to see about 1,500 people per day by the time the museum closed.

A final number of visitors is still being compiled by museum staff.

This summer on many occasions, they say they’ve seen that same number before noon.

“This is a huge deal," says Alicia Harvey, director of marketing at the Museum of the Rockies. "We strive for year-over-year increases. Every business, or a non-profit, in our case, always wants to see more people come through the door but this kind of an increase is monumental compared to any better year than we’ve had.”

The museum has also added additional tours with the help of their volunteers, as well as more opportunities for their special Mongolian performances.
