The Montana/Dakotas office of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management sent personnel to south-central Montana Tuesday to help in the search for missing 16-year-old Selena Not Afraid of Hardin, according to a Facebook post.

Not Afraid was last seen at 2 p.m. New Years Day at the I-90 rest stop between Billings and Hardin.

The Montana/Dakotas BLM sent law enforcement and fire personnel to the Hardin area to assist in the search, according to a Facebook post.

The BLM is working closely with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which is leading the investigation.

Not Afraid is a 5-foot-9 inch, 133-pound Native American female. She was last seen wearing a black coat, gray sweater, blue jeans and gray ankle boots.

Not Afraid has a scar near her mouth and a tattoo of a cross on her middle finger.

If you have any information on Not Afraid's whereabouts, contact the tip line at 406-665-9800.

As the search continues, Hardin High School has been working to help with the emotional needs of the student body because of this case.

Hardin High staff have been helping students by "validating their feelings and fears," Hardin High Counselor Laura Soundheim said Tuesday via email.

Staff are encouraging students to keep Not Afraid on the top of the public's and law enforcement's minds by saying her name.
