MISSOULA — A Missoula man is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old Missoula girl over a span of several months.
David Wayne Barnes, 44, is charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent and one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16; both felonies.
Prosecutors say Barnes raped the girl multiple times a week between July of 2019 and November of 2019, and again in January of 2020.
The victim, Jane Doe, told a nurse her family would travel with Barnes in a motorhome through several western states during the time of the alleged sex abuse.
The girl told the nurse while on the trip, Barnes and her parents would buy, sell and use drugs.
On their way back to Montana, Barnes allegedly parked in an alleyway in Spokane where he continued to have sexual intercourse with Doe.
Prosecutors say Doe was missing from Montana for several days but was eventually discovered by the Spokane Police Department with Barnes in his motorhome in November of 2019.
Doe was later returned to her parents in Montana and has since been removed from their custody, according to court documents.
Charging documents dated Dec. 10, 2020, requested a warrant for Barnes' arrest. Barnes was booked into the Missoula County Detention Center on Jan. 22.
Barnes is expected to be formally charged Wednesday in Missoula District Court.
