Montana adds 155 new COVID-19 cases (Friday, August 7)

Montana added 155 new COVID-19 cases to its total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map on Friday.

Note: Numbers reported by the state each day may differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. MTN News counts the updated data individual counties report throughout a given day.

• TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 4,757 cumulative cases statewide, with 3,122 people recovered.

• HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are currently 84 patients hospitalized. There have been 264 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

• ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,565 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.

• TESTING: The number of tests increased by 1,941 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 187,756.

• DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is now at 70.

Flathead and Yellowstone counties both reported 21 new coronavirus cases, followed by Missoula County with 20 new cases. Phillips County added 16 cases, and Big Horn County added 13. The other new cases are spread across 21 other Montana counties.

Two additional deathswere reported Thursday on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, and three additional deaths were reported Thursday in Big Horn County. The state death toll now stands at 70.

Yellowstone County reported another death Wednesday morning but said it would not be reflected in the Wednesday report from the state. Here is the full press release:

RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports another COVID-19 related death of a Yellowstone County resident.

Early Wednesday, August 5, a man in his 60s passed away at a Yellowstone County hospital.

The 26th COVID-19 death in Yellowstone County was confirmed Friday, along with the third death in Gallatin County.

Governor Steve Bullock announced a statewide directive requiring face coverings/masks in Montana on July 15. The directive applies to counties that have four or more active cases of COVID-19.

The directive requires that masks be used in most indoor settings and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Bullock said businesses will have the right to deny entry of anyone not wearing a mask.
