FLORENCE - Florence Carlton School has been closed until further notice due to a confirmed COVID-19 case.
Superintendent Brian Rayburn told MTN News that they received an alert on Tuesday of a positive COVID-19 case in one of their essential support staff crew, subsequently pinning the whole crew as close contacts. He explained that without that department they can’t run the school.
An emergency school board meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday where it will be decided how long the shutdown will last. Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving break, five school days could be affected, but that’s yet to be determined.

Florence Carlton School is closing immediately due to COVID-19.
Superintendent Brian C. Rayburn states in a letter sent to families that “we need to close school immediately due to a Covid exposure that affects the entire school.”
Busses will run at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. However, parents can pick up students before that. The closure effects the entire campus, including the elementary, middle and high schools.
Rayburn further stated that more information is expected to be released later on Tuesday.
