“He doesn’t know him at all, they’re not acquaintances or anything like that, the age difference is quite a bit, doesn’t know why the male may have attacked him,” said Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich.

The victim was being treated at St. James Healthcare and recovering from serious injuries. Police said the attack appears to be completely random.

“Most of our assaults and serious assaults are between people who know each other. There’s not a whole lot of random assaults that go on,” said Skuletich.

Officers were able to quickly locate the suspect in this area of Idaho and Silver streets thanks to eyewitnesses at the scene.

“And then there was also a male that followed him from the bar down the alley where we arrested him so, the witness statements have been really good for us,” the undersheriff said.

Caye remains jailed on $150,000 bond.
