Electric City Speedway rolls through unpredictable season

COVID-19 has made it an unpredictable spring and summer for the Electric City Speedway, especially since the speedway is in its first year under new ownership.

Track co-manager Russ Ehnes said the track was fortunate to be able to open at all. In late June, the track even had approval from local health authorities to host as many as 1,000 socially distanced people.

However, last week Cascade City-County Health Department in Great Falls ordered a 500-person gathering limit for outdoor venues. Ehnes said the limit might make it financially difficult to continue operating this season.

“We're going to do the math and see how this all works out over the next week or so and then decide what the rest of the season holds,” he said. He added that if a vaccine becomes available, "we plan on really making the most of next season."

In the meantime, Ehnes encourages fans to continue to attend races. Tickets are available online at MyRacePass.com

"We're going to continue to operate. We're going to encourage people to come to the races and social distance. We're going to wear masks, and we're not requiring that because we are an outdoor venue with social distancing,” Ehnes said. "But we're strongly encouraging people to wear masks and if they don't have one, we're glad to provide one. But the main thing is, if we all respect each other and do what we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, I think we can continue to have a fun race season for the fans and for the drivers."
