BOZEMAN — The Montana Board of Regents has been meeting at Montana State University the past couple days, and one of the items on their agenda is a pay raise for MSU President Waded Cruzado.

Board members expressed their support to offer Cruzado the raise to prevent her from leaving MSU and taking a job with another university.

The Regents said they’re willing to offer President Cruzado a pay increase of $150,000 a year, which would put her at more than $476,000 a year.

Board members applauded Cruzado’s 10 years of leadership, noting rising enrollment numbers and high graduation rates.

“We’ve asked that our good president consider staying here. While we can’t match the offer of other institutions in many cases,” said Commissioner of HIgher Education Clay Christen.

“I think we can do something to help close that gap somewhat, and I’m asking you to consider a retention item to do just that.”

President Cruzado herself did not comment on which university had offered her a position, or how much money she was offered.
