Ahwatukee, AZ (KNXV) — A Valley community is on high alert after a man tried to enter a house in Phoenix while a teenager was home alone.

Ring doorbell video shows the teen arriving at his home near 21st Street and Chandler Boulevard, unaware a stranger is watching his every move.

Once he enters the front door, a red pickup truck pulls into the driveway and the driver makes a beeline for the door handle. When it doesn’t open, he tries the security key pad before taking off.

“I saw the video, I didn’t know that’s my neighbor, I know it’s in the same neighborhood but I didn’t know where it was,” said JC Wong.

Wong lives next door to where the footage was captured. “It’s a very safe neighborhood, we never have any major issues but this one is very shocking,” said Wong.

Phoenix police posted the video to Facebook Wednesday in hopes of creating awareness.

Officers say they are concealing the man’s identity because in their words, “a crime has yet to be identified.”

But for neighbors like Mike Gray who just moved to the community, the video is concerning when he thinks of his own children.

“I’ve could never imagine seeing someone just wander up quickly behind my son or my daughter and try and get in the house, so that’s shocking,” said Gray.

Phoenix police are praising the young man for locking the door after entering the home and immediately notifying law enforcement.
