Phoenix, AZ (KNXV) — Could you have thousands of dollars just waiting for you to claim?
One Arizona woman never thought so.
But Eva, a former music teacher, actually did have money held by the state’s Department of Revenue waiting for her to claim.
Turns out, it was money in a dormant bank account.
“I thought I’d get $10 or something,” she recently told me. Turns out, it was A LOT more–and she almost didn’t get it.
The state takes possession of money from old accounts, unclaimed pay stubs, tax refunds, old safe deposit boxes and other sources. It can only hold money for individuals for 35 years.
After that, it gets rolled into the state’s general fund. In Eva’s case, the state had been holding onto her money for more than 34 years.
She found out she had unclaimed money from a story we did listing names of people on the list, given to us by the state.
And the Department of Revenue gave us five more names of people who have money waiting RIGHT NOW.
They are:
MINNA T. MOLENRICH, PHOENIX
MINA FLEISCHAUER, PHOENIX
JOHNNY Q. MONTELONGO, PHOENIX
MARTIN MANNIX, PEORIA
CECIL J. HERNANDEZ, SCOTTSDALE
If the person has passed away, a family member can go through the claiming process.
So if you know where a relative may be, let them know.
Eva is using part of her new-found money to help a relative. She’s going to help pay for her granddaughter’s honeymoon.
