The White House correspondent for Breitbart, a far-right website supportive of President Trump, has joined the Trump administration, people familiar with the matter told CNN.

A spokesperson for the White House confirmed the hire after this story was first published. The spokesperson said Michelle Moons, the correspondent, will work in the office of Domestic Policy Council.

Moons, who did not respond to requests for comment, worked at Breitbart for more than five years before accepting the new job.

Breitbart employees were notified of the hire on Monday morning.

“She’s been an integral part of our DC team and we are very proud of her,” read a message sent to the employees from Jon Kahn, Breitbart’s chief operating officer.

Kahn instructed employees to “NOT comment about this publicly or on social media.” He did suggest, however, that they “reach out to her directly to offer congratulations.”

Breitbart was formerly headed by Steve Bannon, who served at the beginning of the Trump administration as the White House chief strategist.

Julia Hahn, another former Breitbart employee, also works in the administration. Hahn is a special assistant to the president and director of surrogate and coalition communications and has worked since there since early 2017.

Correction: This story has been updated to reflect that Moons has been hired by the Domestic Policy Council. An earlier of version of this story misstated the name of the council Moons had joined.
