HELENA – The flu is continuing to spread across Montana.

Nearly 500 new cases are being reported by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) for the week ending January 26.

The new numbers put the total number of cases for the season at just under 1,500 in 46 counties. And of those, 75 required hospitalization and two were fatal.

Missoula, Ravalli, and Cascade counties had the most new cases. Meanwhile, the most confirmed cases of the flu overall include Missoula, Ravalli, Gallatin, and Lewis and Clark.

Yellowstone County had 36 new cases.

Flathead County is seeing way fewer cases than this time last year, and medical experts attribute this to more people getting flu shots this season.
