WINIFRED – A young man from Winifred, Montana is leaving his mark on agriculture – not by running the farm but filming it.
“More and more people are becoming disconnected from what agriculture is and where their food comes from,” said Riley Slivka, founder of AgriStudios.
Slivka started filming on his family farm when he was 12 and when interest started growing in the videos, he felt they might have a greater purpose. He decided his videos could help people learn about the farms their food comes from.
In 2015, his first drone video with stunning images of his family’s wheat harvest along the Missouri River Breaks started getting attention on social media.
This past April, he released a short documentary called “Along the Edge, a Montana Family Harvest Story.”
The 16-minute film features his family and Riley plays the role of videographer, writer, and editor.
“It is a bit of a difficult process but I love seeing the story come together,” he said.
Currently, Slivka is a student at Montana State studying ag communication and he has his own business, Agristudios.
His work to promote ag education has already taken him across Montana, North Dakoda, Wyoming, and even Iowa, but he knows there are still a lot of stories to be told.
“There’s so much out there that I have yet to learn and as I travel and gain new clients with different backgrounds, I get to learn more and more about where our food comes from myself too.”
While he continues to learn all about ag, he hopes others will too.
