JOLIET – The Joliet community came together on Saturday afternoon to honor 16-year-old high school student Paul McKay.

McKay died early Thursday morning in a double fatal crash near Fromberg. The crash killed McKay and 56-year-old Billings resident Michael Oedekoven.

McKay was a Fromberg resident and a sophomore on the Joliet football team.  The community and football team remembered McKay with a moment of silence before Saturday’s playoff game against Scobey.

The team placed his number 70 on the field, as well as on their helmets. In addition, the school sold T-shirts with the phrase “Play for Paul.”

All of the proceeds will go to the McKay family.

McKay’s mom is the music teacher at Joliet High School and one of her students sang the national anthem.

The community of Columbus also joined to show their support. The Columbus and Joliet pep bands played together at a district volleyball tournament on Friday night.

Joliet lost their playoff game against Scobey on Saturday 74-50.
