Update: Missing Lodge Grass man found deceased

The family of Shann Nomee said they were told that his death is under investigation by authorities and they are awaiting an autopsy for more information.

Here's the full news release from the family after Nome was found dead east of Lodge Grass:

"Following an extensive Search and Rescue effort we regret having to report the tragic loss of our nephew Shann Wade Nomee 37 of Lodge Grass. Last night, BIA police and Missing and Murdered Unit notified our family that Shann’s body was found late Tuesday evening east of Lodge Grass. We have many questions and have been informed that Shann’s death is being investigated and an autopsy will follow.

"We want to take this time to thank Missing and Murdered Unit, Robert Ashcroft and Devany Buffalo, BIA Victim Specialist for the kindness shown to our family; and all the volunteers that helped in the search during fridged below zero weather in the last several days since Shann was reported missing on Saturday January 13, 2024. The Black Eagle family thanks Crow Tribe Chairman Frank White Clay and the Executive Branch officers, Crow Incident Command, Darrin Old Coyote and his volunteers, Big Horn County Search & Rescue, Chaz Bends and his volunteers, Lodge Grass Mayor Quincy Dabney and his team, and the Northern Cheyenne Search and Rescue Team who came to assist us. Charli Sleeper, MMIP Billings LLC, We are indebted to all the Crow Reservation people and the surrounding towns of Hardin, Billings and others around the state who shared our posts and all the many organizations who reached out to assist our family. We especially thank the people of Lodge Grass District for their time and efforts in the search and rescue of Shann as he was a well known individual, always walking and greeting people around town. Our hearts are broken and we will miss him dearly. Please grant our family privacy as we mourn the loss of Shann and prepare for the days ahead of us."

Update Wednesday 11 a.m.

Cedric Black Eagle, Nomee's uncle, said Wednesday that law enforcement called around midnight to inform him that the missing man had been found deceased outside of Lodge Grass.

He said authorities continue to investigate to determine how Nomee died.

LODGE GRASS - The search for a Lodge Grass man who went missing Saturday will continue this week.

Shann Nomee, 37, was last seen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday hitchhiking from Lodge Grass north to his mother's home, where he lives, about two miles north of town along Highway 87, according to relatives.

His uncle, Cedric Black Eagle, walks to town as part of his daily routine and was dropped off Saturday night at the family's home lane.

He was last seen wearing a green reflector jacket, black coveralls, and a black stocking cap.

Big Horn County Search and Rescue and the Bureau of Indian Affairs is involved in the search, and family members spent Tuesday searching on foot.

A team of search dogs will be brought in on Wednesday, according to relatives.

Search teams will begin gathering outside Lodge Grass City Hall around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
