BOZEMAN — It’s obvious our nation is facing a lot of challenges right now. Tensions are running high. It’s easy to look at friends and family and figure out what they’re thinking but what does the local church have to say?

“Our greatest tool is to pray, to pray for changed hearts because I think we all recognize whatever legislation is changed. If there’s not a change in heart or perspective, there’s very little change that takes place,” explained Pastor Bryan Hughes.

As the lead pastor at Grace Bible Church, Hughes is often someone many people look to in times of conflict.

“What a great opportunity for Christians to set an example of you know what it doesn’t matter if you’re male or female if you’re Jew or gentile, or African-American, Caucasian American. You know what, we can be one and we can show that unity and what a great picture to lead the way,” Hughes said.

And what exactly does the Pastor suggest people should be praying for?

“For good decisions by leaders. We’re praying for wisdom in leadership. We’re praying for people’s hearts to be changed, attitudes. So, those are very specific biblical injunctions,” the pastor explained.

To be clear, Pastor Bryan says Christians should be praying first. But they can also express themselves in other ways.

“We’re allowed to protest. Now, we’re not allowed to break the law in our protest. So, don’t do it unlawfully. But if you are concerned about what has happened in this country, especially recent events and you want your voice to be heard and you want to march or protest, I say by all means. That is not off the table for Christians. That’s something that you can do, and if it’s in your heart then do it,” he clarified.

Today marks two weeks since the death of George Floyd, which sparked the massive protests across the country.
