BOZEMAN, Mont. – Viewer Joe Cobb sent MTN News video of a black bear wandering through his neighborhood off South 3rd Avenue on Saturday.

“This bear walked right past me on my lawn then crossed the street,” Joe said, adding that Animal Control was on the scene at the time.

The Bozeman Police Department said Animal Control initially responded to multiple reports about the bear. Around 11:45 a.m., police called in wardens with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to tranquilize and remove it.

Morgan Jacobsen, information and education program manager for Montana FWP Region 3, said the bear, estimated to be more than 300 pounds, caused no damage but has been spotted in Bozeman before.

Wardens caught the bear on Spring Creek Drive and tranquilized it in a resident’s backyard, relocating it to FWP facilities.

A bear biologist will be doing an assessment, Jacobsen said, and will determine what the next course of action will be.
