BOZEMAN, Mont. – On Saturday, Bozeman Health hosted the conference, “Courageous Conversations: Uniting Parents, Educators, & Healthcare Providers” to open conversation about helping children with special needs.
The one-day conference was put on by Gallatin County Health Department, Montana Project Launch and Bridger Peaks Counseling.
Parents, educators, and physicians were able to share their stories and everyday difficulties they face. Mother RaLea Harbrige talked at the event about the up and downs she has gone through when raising a child with special needs and how events like this conference make her feel a part of the community.
“Just people in the community, they are starting to become more aware and I think it starts with parents speaking out about it, but also providers,” said Harbrige. “Whether they are medical or mental health, just being more aware of how hard it can be and reaching out, it helps.”
Harbrige encourages any parent who has a child with any disability to reach out to the Bozeman Orchid Club. This club offers numerous events and support groups throughout the year to help families feel more a part of the community.
