BILLINGS- A man deemed a ‘person of interest’ in a recent shooting in Billings has been captured in Gallatin County after an early Thursday morning pursuit.

William Rogers, 30, from Laurel, was previously involved in a shooting in Billings and was taken into custody by Gallatin police after the pursuit came to an end.

Residents living near Maudlow were alerted at around 1 a.m. Thursday morning to be on the lookout after police found an abandoned vehicle and Rogers fled on foot.

In addition to the pursuit, Billings Police Lt. Brandon Wooley said Rogers is a suspect in a shooting that occurred in Billings in the early morning hours Wednesday on the 900 Block of N. 23rd Street.

A 37-year-old Billings male was dropped off at Billings Clinic with a single handgun gunshot wound to his left lower body when possibly two gunshots were fired from an SUV, striking the victim.

According to a release posted on Gallatin County’s media page, Rogers, was found in a basement and taken into custody for burglary and warrants for drugs.

Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said Bozeman police initially pursued the suspects, and they were joined by sheriff deputies.

“We were able to locate the male. No one was hurt, and they are both in custody. I know the male in custody for state and federal warrant and the female is in custody for local charges,” said Gootkin.

In addition to Rogers, police also captured a passenger, Chelcie Watson, and charged her with possession of dangerous drugs.
