Carjacking investigated in Butte

BUTTE, Mont. – Butte-Silver Bow law enforcement are investigating a Monday night carjacking where a man on an ATV pointed a gun at a driver.

The driver left his vehicle after the suspect reportedly fired a shot into the ground and two female suspects drove away in the victim’s vehicle.

According to a press release from Sheriff Ed Lester, at approximately 11:57 p.m. on Monday, a couple had stopped at a house on the 1100 block of West Granite Street in Butte. The woman had taken a child from the vehicle into the house when a man on a 4-wheel ATV pulled up and pointed a handgun at the driver. The man ordered the driver out of the car and fired a gunshot into the ground.

The driver exited the car and two unknown females got into the victim’s car and drove away, headed westbound on Granite St. The man on the ATV also drove away, eastbound on Granite St.

The vehicle that was taken was a 2004 Grey Hyundai Sonata bearing Montana plates 1-42191A.  

Lester said no one was injured in the incident.  As of now, the car has not been recovered.
