An East Helena School District student tested positive for COVID-19. According to school administrators, the district was notified on Sept. 13, and the positive test was confirmed Sept. 14.
According to an email from East Helena School District Superintendent Ron Whitmoyer, the case was isolated to “a cohort, or small group.” Students and staff identified as close contacts to the positive case were notified and “isolated until the extent of the illness has been determined,” Whitmoyer wrote.
Whitmoyer said the student has not attended school since the onset of symptoms.
Students and staff from the affected classroom have been directed to stay home while district officials monitor the health of identified close contacts. The school district is in contact with the Lewis and Clark City-County Health Department and reviewing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention while cleaning the affected school facilities.
Whitmoyer requested parents keep children at home if they exhibit symptoms of an illness, and reach out to a medical provider for specific instructions.
The school the student attends has not been identified at this time,
