If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, now is the time to do so.
The IRS announced the tax filing and payment deadline for individual taxpayers will not automatically be extended again.
The original deadline, April 15, was already extended, but now the deadline is and will remain July 15.
“The IRS extended the individual tax deadline to July 15 because of the coronavirus crisis. People don’t need to file any extension if they’re going to file by that date, but if you still need extra time you can file an extension until October 15,” explained Justin Haring, a tax analyst.
The extension provides additional time to file the tax return. It is not an extension to pay any taxes due. A request has to be made for the extension.
