The Missoula City-County Health Department (MCCHD) on Friday reported 93 additional COVID-19 cases since the Thursday update.
The number of new cases marks a single-day record of new coronavirus cases in the county, breaking the record of 89 set on Thursday.
An additional COVID-19 related death, the tenth, is also being reported. The only other information being released is that the person who passed away was an older adult.
"We are deeply saddened to report that another county resident passed away from COVID-related complications. We send our thoughts and condolences to the family, friends, and community members affected by this loss," MCCHD stated in a social media post.
There are currently 678 active cases with more than 1,600 close contacts. Fifty-six of the 678 active cases are associated with University of Montana staff, faculty, and students.
Overall, local public health officials are reporting 1,964 cumulative cases. There have been 1,276 recoveries and 10 COVID-19 related deaths to date.
Twenty-seven people are hospitalized in Missoula County including 15 county residents.
MCCHD notes COVID-19 rates are increasing in middle-aged and older adults, with more than 30% of active cases now associated with folks 50 years of age and older.
Additionally, case investigation and contact tracing indicate that more than 60% of active cases are the result of having had close contact to a known, reported case.
MCCHD issued a revised Public Health Order in regards to face masks as well as new restrictions on senior facilities on Oct. 15.

MCCHD is urging people to continue practicing health and safety behaviors:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.
- Keep at least 6 feet of safe space between you and others as the environment permits.
- Wear a face covering that's fully sealed around your nose and mouth.
- Remember that physical spacing does not replace face coverings - these are tools to be used together for maximum efficacy and safety.
