MOLT – Cooperative weather, lower temperatures and high humidity kept fire growth minimal at the Medicine Man fire on Friday night, according the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office.

Most fire in grassy areas was contained and extinguished.

Firefighting efforts now focus on the deep and steep canyons. These areas are covered with heavy fuels and accessibility is difficult.

Hand crews make up the majority of this effort, slowing progress.

The storm system that moved through yesterday afternoon brought high winds that advanced the fire, pushing it west into multiple rugged canyons.

Bull dozers were used Friday afternoon to establish fire lines in these areas.

The fire is estimated at over 450 acres and crews are still holding lines with 55 percent containment.
