Brooksville, FL (WFTS) — Ziggy’s Legacy Rescue, is rehabilitating ten calves they rescued from a dairy farm that normally kills male calves at birth.

Mandy Figarola, the founder of Ziggy’s Legacy Rescue, loves cows so much that she has seven full-grown cows that are all rescues.

That’s why when she heard about a dairy that kills male calves at birth, she knew she had to do something.

“One of my goats passed away a few weeks ago and I thought ‘ok, we have the space, I’ll take one.’ We ended up with ten,” she said.

Figarola is working to rehabilitate the ten calves by bottle feeding them three times daily. They’re also on medication because they are very weak from being separated from their mothers so early.

She says eventually she will be looking for homes for the calves after they are well and done bottle feeding.

“I love them. They’re smart and sweet and just wonderful animals and I just think that these babies deserve a chance to live,” said Figarola
