Fort Collins, CO (KMGH) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in downtown Fort Collins, a spokesperson for Fort Collins Police Services confirmed to Denver7 Thursday afternoon.
Police tweeted about the crash at about 3:18 p.m., alerting drivers to avoid the area of Mason St. and Mulberry St. while police investigated the deadly crash.
Officials told Denver7 the BNSF freight train was expected to block all east-west traffic south from Magnolia St. to Prospect Road for approximately four hours.
The Colorado State University Police Department told people on social media that the east side of campus is blocked at the tracks due to the crash, and that traffic off-and-on campus from the east side between the railroad tracks and College Ave. is blocked from Mulberry to Prospect.
Students were asked to avoid College Ave. and the east side of campus, and to enter and exit the premises from the west entrance, off Shields Street.
Roads were opened by 8:31 p.m.
