Saginaw, MI (WJRT) — The eight-month mystery of who became an instant millionaire after buying a winning Powerball ticket in Saginaw last April is solved.
Adam Bradley of Westerville, Ohio, claimed the prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters on Thursday.
Saginaw native Bradley, 35, matched all five white balls 20-22-28-45-50 in the April 28 drawing to win a $1 million prize.
He lives in the Columbus, Ohio, area and was in Mid-Michigan visiting family in April. He bought the ticket at the Speedway gas station located at 3357 E. Holland Road in Saginaw.
“My mom, grandma and I were going to dinner and I told them I wanted to stop and buy tickets since I was in town,” said Bradley, a Michigan native. “My mom gave me $4 and I bought two separate tickets. When I got back to the car, I gave her one and kept one.”
His grandmother dismissed his purchase of lottery tickets as a waste, he said.
“My grandma was skeptical. She said: ‘I don’t know why you play, no one ever wins,’” Bradley said.
The next morning, a family member read the winning numbers to Bradley. He couldn’t believe his ears and couldn’t stop shaking when he realized he won the big prize.
“I told my grandma, ‘It turns out you were one million times wrong,’” Bradley said.
He plans to buy a new home, take a family vacation and save the rest of his $1 million prize.
“Winning is nice. It gives me a sense of financial security,” Bradley said.
