Phoenix, AZ (KPHO) — A west Phoenix family said they are constantly paranoid after getting targeted three times by an arsonist.

Each time, they said, someone walks up to their driveway and lights their car on fire.

John McDonald said the first time his car was ignited was Nov. 18, and he happened to see it while leaving the house. He found a sock near the gas cap.

“Not only was it soaked in gasoline, it was soaked in cotton,” McDonald said.

He said they called the police. But that same night, his mom’s car was targeted.

“My sister noticed that my mom’s car was it, was lit at that moment,” McDonald said.

“There was a rag hanging from the gas cap,” said Olga McDonald, John’s mom.

They called the police again. But both cars were still driveable.

Fast forward to the middle of the night Dec. 3.

“A bystander came by banging on the door, telling us, there’s a fire in your car,” John said.

This time, the McDonalds were armed with security cameras, so they caught the most recent incident on camera. John’s vehicle was burned completely. Olga said she has spent her savings on trying to protect her family. They want to put out these fires for good.

“Why do something like this?” John asked. “Are you trying to make a point? Because your point’s not being made by lighting a few cars on fire. No one should be doing that.”

“I’m a single mom. I go to work and come back so I don’t think I have any enemies that would do this to me,” Olga said.
