LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — 13 Action News spoke with a grandmother in town for a high school reunion when she got a terrifying call from her daughter in Alaska.

“My daughter… she called me it sounds like she’s shaking,” said Valerie De La Cruz, “and I said, what’s going on?”

De La Cruz thought her daughter might have been in an accident, but then she realized a massive 7.0 earthquake had just hit near Anchorage, Alaska.

Her immediate concern was the safety and well-being of her family.

Pictures show how De La Cruz’s two grandchildren took cover under a table. As an aftershock hit, the children’s father was on Facebook live.

The family’s home was damaged, but De La Cruz wasn’t concerned about that.

“We are so blessed, those were only material things that can be replaced,” De La Cruz said.

The earthquake was just 30 second, but it was long enough to rattle even the quake-hardened people of Alaska.
