Chandler, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) — Crews from various fire departments battled a large fire at a mansion in Chandler Thursday morning.

According to Deputy Chief Eric Kriwer with the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, firefighters were dispatched for a call of a structure fire right before 3 a.m.

When they arrived, they found the home, located near Alma School and Chandler Heights roads, fully engulfed. The home is nearly 12,000 square feet.

Crews entered the second story of the home to make a fire attack when they quickly had to exit the home and go defensive because of the size of the fire.

“Within the first 15, 20 minutes they had to go defensive,” said Kriwer.

A total of four people were home at the time of the fire and will be displaced from the home. Five dogs were also rescued safely.

“The early morning fires are the most dangerous fires,” said Kriwer. “So life safety is our No. 1 concern.”

Crews from Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, Gilbert, Mesa and Chandler are still on scene trying to extinguish the blaze.

Kriwer said there will be an extensive fire investigation.

No injuries have been reported.
