DPS: Wrong-way driver collides with trooper

    Flagstaff, AZ (KGUN/ KWBA) — Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety say one of their sergeants was involved in a crash with a wrong-way driver near Flagstaff on Saturday afternoon.

According to DPS, just before 3:40 p.m., dispatch began receiving reports of a red Nissan Rogue driving recklessly.

The calls reportedly stated that the vehicle almost struck several cars and was driving on the sidewalk.

Officials say a trooper found the vehicle on Interstate 40 and tried to contact the driver.

The vehicle then reportedly fled and began driving eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-40 near milepost 195.

DPS says a sergeant who was in the area was involved in a crash with the wrong-way vehicle.

The female driver and juvenile occupant in the wrong-way vehicle were taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the sergeant was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS says impairment has not been ruled out in the collision.
