BARTOW, Fla. (WFTS) — A high school football player suffered a concussion and a broken collarbone after a fight on the football field on Thursday.
Devin Miles, 16, was playing in a JV football game at Bartow High School when he was injured after a fight broke out between the two teams.
School officials said a fight happened between football players from Bartow High School and Lakeland High School.
Miles said his own teammates started kicking and stomping on him after several football players got into a fight.
He was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
“I felt a helmet hit my head and I fell. I just felt people stomping on me and my coach pulled me out,” said Miles.
Cell phone video, provided by the teen’s mother, showed Miles holding his head as he stumbled to a nearby bench.
“At that very moment, the whole world just stopped. You can see people’s lips moving, but you can’t hear nothing,” said Tosha Cole, mother of Devin Miles.
Miles was released from the hospital on Monday after spending nearly five days hospitalized.
“My shoulder hurts and I got blurry vision in my left eye. It’s hard for me to see out of my left eye,” said Miles.
The Bartow Police Department is working with the Polk County School Board to review the incident.
Bartow Police said no charges have been filed at this point.
“I want to go back on the field, but I have to get better first,” said Miles.
