INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — A 15-year-old arrested in connection with the murder of Indiana University Dr. Kevin Rodgers last November is now being charged as an adult.
Tarius Blade, 15, is facing three counts of burglary in connection with the case.
Rodgers was shot and killed Nov. 20, 2017, at his home in the 7500 block of Ballinshire South Drive on the northwest side.
Prosecutors had previously charged three other suspects:
-Nehemiah Merriweather: Who was 17 at the time of Rodgers’ death, faces one count of felony murder and two counts of burglary.
-Devon Seats: 17, is charged with murder, felony murder and two counts of burglary.
-Ka’Ron Bickham: Who was 18 at the time of Rodgers’ murder, is charged with felony murder and burglary.
Investigators believe the four suspects killed Rodgers when he encountered them while they were burglarizing his house. In addition to evidence of other burglaries, police found four Cathedral High School championship rings with the name “Rodgers” engraved on the side of each ring in the trunk of a Dodge Charger linked to the four suspects.
Rodgers was the program director emeritus at IU School of Medicine, as well as a longtime assistant lacrosse coach and team physician for Cathedral High School.
