Ridgecrest, CA (KERO) — A Good Samaritan is being credited with helping save a dog from a burning home in Ridgecrest over the weekend.
According to Ridgecrest Police, on Saturday night officers were dispatched to a home on West Bennett Avenue for reports of a fire.
It was initially reported that a woman was possibly still inside the home, which was fully engulfed.
Police say reserve officer Lloyd and a citizen, identified as Jorge Toral, were able to get into the home through a back door.
Lloyd and Toral found a dog that was unresponsive and laying inside the burning home.
The two were able to get the dog, whose name is Max, out of the home and breathing on his own. He made a full recovery and was up and walking around before officers cleared the scene.
No people were found in the home.
It’s not known what caused the blaze.
In a social media post, the Ridgecrest Police Department said, “We would also like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that structure fires are extremely dangerous. Due to the rapidly evolving situation, fires are often unpredictable and can trap would be rescuers inside. Firefighters have special equipment and are trained to handle those situations. More often than not the best thing to do is to stay a safe distance from the scene.”
