COBB COUNTY, Ga. (WGCL) — For the first time in two weeks, contractors began the process of restoring natural gas to more than 400 apartments in Atlanta.
About a thousand people living at the District at Vinings complex have been without hot water in their homes for 12 days and workers said it could be two more weeks before the problem is fixed.
Shari Ansari said she refuses to use one of the 64-mobile showers that management brought on the property because she doesn’t feel they’re sanitary or safe.
“It’s absurd at this point,” said Ansari. ” Absurd, something else has to be done. I’m going back and forth to Kennesaw to my mom’s house just to wash myself and now two weeks it’s going to take for them to figure out where it is, this is absolutely ridiculous.”
Alene Luginski lives next to the portable showers and said she hasn’t seen any security despite what management claims.
“I haven’t seen anybody here and I would think if you’re going to have this type of situation you would have security 24/7.
To make matters worse, the mobile showers quit working for a few hours Monday morning because the generators they operate on ran out of gas. Management insists they’re doing all they can.
“In addition to the showers, we’ve got some folks still feel a little uncomfortable there so we’ve set up gym memberships at LA Fitness which is a larger facility and some folks have come up to us and said they would feel more comfortable at a larger facility and in the case of handicap we’re more than happy to put them up in hotels,” said Walt Lamperski, president of apartments.
Management has also agreed to discount rent by 50 percent each day that their residents are without hot water. Some people still think management should do more by having visible security and better lighting around the mobile showers.
Two things management intends to improve upon.
