ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich (WXYZ) — The owner of a Citgo gas station in St. Clair Shores witnessed a good deed that surely made one elderly woman’s day.

“I was so thankful and, I just huh, you know, I said I don’t know I’ve never had anyone do that for me like that,” said Dolores Marotta, the woman helped by officer Todd Bing of the Saint Clare Shores Police Department.

Seth Kasyouhanan, the owner of the gas station on Little Mack in St. Clair Shores, posted to his Facebook page on Friday, Aug. 31 an interaction between a woman who had fallen on hard times and a police officer.

Kasyouhanan wrote that the woman used $3 in change to pay for her gas. A police officer was standing behind her in line and happened to overhear that amount.

“He went outside and told her to sit in the car as he would pump the gas for her,” Kasyouhanan wrote in the Facebook post. “After a few minutes of getting to know one another, he realized she was really struggling and didn’t have any gas or money left.”

The officer then returned inside the gas station and bought the woman $20 worth of gas.

Dolores Marotta told the officer that her husband had recently died and she’s been left to pay all of their bills on her own, and she’s fallen behind every month.

“I saya God must have sent him there for me,” Marotta said.

Officer Bing has been with the St. Clair Shores Police Department for 11 years, and has been a police officer for 17 years.

“That interaction there had nothing to do with me in the moment being a police officer, it was just a human thing,” said Officer Bing.

Kasyouhanan has set up a GoFundMe page in Marotta’s honor. If you’d like to donate, visit the GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/wm7pu-helping-the-elderly.
