BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) — A Blue Springs family is furious with Sprint after a cell phone repair went horribly wrong.
Almitra Busan says somehow her phone number was removed from her device and given to another customer who decided to send hateful nasty messages to her contacts posing as her.
“I thought how could this be happening? I couldn’t get my brain around it immediately, because it was ‘how is this coming from my phone?’ My phone is in my hand but someone is sending messages as me. But these are horrible, horrible messages,” Busan said.
The nasty messages went to her mother and husband.
“It was appalling. It was disgusting. Who talks like that? They don’t even know me,” said her mother, Maat Manyatta.
The family raced around Sprint stores late at night to stop the awful messages. Then they reported it to police because the content was so troubling.
The family says police took the incident seriously. However, they are disappointed in Sprint’s response. They say the company originally offered the family just three hours of phone credit for the mix-up, and the family says that’s not enough.
“For us it’s not just about that. It’s about making sure that other people don’t have to go through this and that Sprint shows in some way to their customers that if this happens to you here’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to make this right and we’re going to protect you and protect your identity,” Robert Busan said.
KCTV5 News questioned Sprint about the mix-up. They blamed a third party technician who worked inside the Sprint store. They called the error incredibly uncommon and the result of an honest human error.
They say they are working with the family to come to an appropriate resolution for what happened.
“What if it was somebody’s work phone and their boss thinks they sent a message like this and they get fired?” questioned Almitra Busan.
Almitra Busan and her family have had to change their phone numbers and remain concerned about other information that the creep may have obtained.
