BOZEMAN — A date has officially been set for Bozeman’s senior class of 2020 seniors to make it to a graduation ceremony.
The next question: what will that ceremony look like?
Bozeman School District officials announced that graduation *will be held on June 7 at either Van Winkle Stadium at Bozeman High School -- or at MSU’s Bobcat Stadium.
Superintendent Bob Connors says social distancing will have to be in play -- with masks being handed out to each of the 508 graduating seniors.
Connors adds that being said, the ceremony will be a completely volunteer effort.
The superintendent discussed how other schools across the state handled the question of guests, with Butte allowing two guests per graduate this week, Billings allowing two and Great Falls allowing none.
“First and foremost, we want to have our 508 seniors together on this day,” Connors says. “The next phase would be to expand the number of guests as we get permission from the health department. With that comes the responsibility for our guests, for their behavior with social distancing and any rules that we need to put in place to make sure that the ceremony remains about our 2020 seniors.”
Connors says an outdoor venue is in the best interest of the schools at this time, with advice given from the Gallatin City-County Health Department.
The board will continue working with the school administration to decide on guest limits.
