SUNDAY FOR NORTHWESTERN MADISON AND NORTHWESTERN BEAVERHEAD
COUNTIES...

* Point forecast for the Big Hole River near Melrose.
* At 6:15 PM Monday, the stage was 6.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 6.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Continue to rise to near 7.6 feet by Thursday night.
* Impacts...At 6.2 feet, water affects areas near Glen. At 7
feet, agricultural lands flood and irrigation systems need to
be protected.

* Water levels on the Big Hole River remained steady during much of
the day on Monday, but additional rises will occur at least
through this week as warm temperatures help increase snowmelt out
of the mountains. Also, runoff from thunderstorms each day this
week will likely keep rivers and creeks running high and fast.

* There is a chance that water levels could rise further than what
is currently forecasted, if significant rainfall from
thunderstorms occur within the Big Hole River Basin. If you live
near the Big Hole River, we urge you to be prepared to take
immediate action if floodwaters threaten your life, property,
and/or livestock.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wisdom, Melrose, Wise River, Dewey and Glen.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR CLARK FORK RIVER NEAR PLAINS THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a

* Flood Watch for a portion of northwest Montana.

* Until further notice.

* The river is forecast to reach flood stage by Tuesday afternoon
and steadily climb throughout the week. Minor flood stage is 16.0
feet.

* Warm temperatures increasing snowmelt runoff will continue to
cause high water on area rivers and streams. In addition, slow
moving showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall are
possible this week, further exacerbating flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
