City Commission set to update Bozeman's strategic plan

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - Bozeman will update its strategic plan at Monday’s City Commission meeting.

City Manager Andrea Surratt says commissioners have been working with the community over the last month to identify areas the city needs to focus on over the next two years.

The plan lists sustainability, affordable housing, road improvements, and law enforcement as top priorities to work on over the next two years.

Surratt says this plan will help workers decide which tasks to focus on first.

“There’s no right or wrong answers, but there are just the ultimate choices of what we do first and how and where we put our early funding,” said Surratt.

Surratt says Bozeman will continue to evolve and the community and officials need to be ready to become a city of 80,000.

“We need to do it differently. We need to think about being a city that grows from the inside out, not out leaving the hole in the middle,” said Surratt.

She says it is good to reference what other suburban cities around the nation are doing, but to recognize that Bozeman is a unique city that needs to find its own path.

The city hopes to make decisions regarding affordable housing and the Law and Justice Center within the next month.
