Laurel couple injured after car becomes trapped under semi

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - Two people were injured in Saturday crash involving a semi on Interstate 90 between Laurel and Billings.

In an update on Sunday, Montana Highway Patrol reported the semi-truck was attempting to pass a PT Cruiser around 9:20 a.m. near the Zoo Drive Exit.

The trooper said the semi moved into the driving lane, encroaching on the other driver. That is when the PT became stuck under the trailer near the rear tires of the semi.

The vehicles were perpendicular to each other at this point. When the driver of the semi realized what was happening, the driver pulled over.

The occupants of the PT Cruiser, elderly residents from Laurel, were both injured. The passenger was treated and released for minor injuries. The driver of the PT Cruiser is still in the hospital after suffering more severe injuries, according to MHP.

The driver of the semi was unharmed.

Originally, the elderly couple told troopers they heard a pop in their PT Cruiser, which may have been a blown tire. It's unknown at this time if the blown tire was a result of the semi moving back into the right lane.
