Cascade County sheriff to seek third term

GREAT FALLS - Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards announced Saturday he will run for re-election.

Edwards made the announcement during a press conference at Schulte's Coffee House.

He said that under his leadership, the Sheriff's Office budget is the best it's ever been, has a better training division, and the jail has received upgrades without help from taxpayers.

"I have said it before and I'm going to say it again, I am extremely proud of the team at the Cascade County Sheriff's Office," he said.

Edwards continued that he received overwhelming support to seek re-election.

"I am not a perfect man but I have been fair, I've been transparent, and I've been approachable like I said I would be eight years ago," he said.

Edwards also addressed the misdemeanor assault charges he received in June of 2017 after an incident in a Helena hotel room involving his girlfriend.

He said he took responsibility and learned from his mistake.

Sheriff Edwards is a Great Falls native and a 25-year veteran of the Cascade County Sheriff's Office.

He was re-elected to a second term as Sheriff in 2014.

George Kynett, Bob Rosipal, and Jesse Slaughter have also filed to run for the position.
