Women in Science Day

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN-- International Women in Science day is Sunday, but the Bozeman Children's Museum decided to celebrate a little early.

The museum held it's very first Women in Science Day, showcasing local women who are scientists in the Bozeman community, some studying for their Ph.D.’s at Montana State University.

Women in Science Day encouraged little ladies and some gents, to come out and try their hand at science and engineering experiments.

From discovering the magnifying properties of water to learning the different parts of a flower, Executive Director at the museum, Abby Turner, said it's important for young women to see other women in their community in these non-traditional roles.

"Having a spot where girls and little boys can come and see women in science roles really gives them that idea and puts it in their minds that, 'I can do that too,'" Turner said.

She highlighted the small percentage of women that make up the STEM career fields and said she hopes events like these can change that.

Turner said the event brought more than 200 people into the museum.
