Severe Winter Weather Impacts For Montana Tonight

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Mountain passes greatest impacts
  • Valleys lesser impacts
  • Gusty winds will produce localized blowing & drifting snow
  • Wind chills could be extremely cold in central & eastern Montana
  • Hazardous to impossible travel along the Rocky Mountain front into Central Montana and Lookout Pass

80% of Montana is under some type of winter weather highlight for impacts from snow and wind tonight into Friday afternoon.


National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for the Butte/Blackfoot region through 11 am Friday.

Snow accumulations of 4" - 7" and up to 14" are possible for most mountain passes like MacDonald pass. Butte and Anaconda could see 1" - 3" of snow. Homestake pass and Boulder Hill could see 3" - 6" of snow.

Gusty winds are possible in wind prone areas producing localized blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.


The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for SW Montana east of the divide through noon on Friday.

Snow accumulations of 2" - 4" are likely for Bozeman pass but 6" - 12" of snow is possible for Chief Joseph, Raynolds, Targhee passes. Bozeman could see 1" - 3" of additional snow.

Localized gusty winds are possible and could produce blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.


The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for Central Montana through Noon on Friday.

Snow accumulations will be heavy at times with valleys possibly picking up 4" - 8" and mountain passes 10" - 16". 

Stronger surface winds are likely producing widespread blowing and drifting along with wind chills as cold as -20°.


The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for West Central Montana from Missoula to Lookout Pass on I-90.

Snow accumulations of 2" - 4" is possible for most valleys and up to a foot or more over Lookout Pass.

Gusty winds are likely in this region producing blowing and drifting snow at times tonight and reduced visibility.
