Posted: 12/06/2017 12:13:00 -07:00 Updated:

The man who shot two people and then killed himself near Trout Creek last month has been identified.

Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel posted the following message on Facebook on Wednesday:

Ladies and Gentlemen, the following is an update on the shooting that occurred on 11/25/2017

On the above date, the S.C.S.O. Dispatch center had received a call stating two individuals had been shot at a residence on Hope Valley Road, outside of Trout Creek.

Deputies arrived at the scene and verified that 83 year old Charles Moore had been shot in the shoulder.

An adult female was found at the scene, deceased from a single gun shot wound. The family has requested that her name be kept confidential and I am honoring that request.

Moore was transported to St. Patrick's Hospital and is recovering from his wound.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies were able to determine that the suspect had fled just prior to their arrival. With the assistance of Two Bear Air, the suspect was located a short distance from the residence, deceased from a self inflicted gun shot wound.

The suspect was identified as 64 year old William Tyree.

Further investigation into this incident had revealed that Tyree had been in a heated argument with Moore.

We will update you if we get more information.

According to the statement, the suspect had fled the scene by the time Sheriff’s deputies arrived.

The suspect was later found dead a short distance from the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Two Bear Air assisted in the search efforts.

The Sanders County Sheriff's Office says their investigation is continuing.

Names of the victims and the suspect are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
