American Legion hosts annual Veterans Day event at Vietnam memorial

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - American Legion Post 14 hosted their annual Veterans Day event on Saturday, one they've been doing for more than 40 years.

Around 80 people came out to the annual event, held at the Sunset Hills Cemetery, in front of the Vietnam Veterans Wall.

The ceremony began with opening remarks, and a chance to honor and remember those who have served.

First Vice Commander of American Legion Post 14, and event organizer Len Albright, said his message on this Veterans Day is simple.

"Just remember the veterans, and keep them in your heart, keep them with you," Albright said. "Remember their sacrifices, remember their duty, their honor, remember their families," he said.

People of all ages came out to the Veterans Day event, but Albright said it was particularly gratifying to see the younger children honoring their vets.

"To see the little kids with their hands over their hearts, and some of them saluting and waving, it was awesome," said Albright.

Albright said The American Legion is collecting funds to designate a specific area of the cemetery to be a Veterans Cemetery.

Albright also spoke of the new kiosk the American Legion will be placing at the Vietnam Wall, which will allow visitors to locate a Veterans name on the wall, or to find where their Veteran is buried in the cemetery.

If you would like to donate to the Veterans Cemetery project, simply bring donations to American Legion Post 14, located at 225 E. Main St in Bozeman.
