Sen. Tester introduces bill to help fund Veterans Home in Butte

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Senator Jon Tester introduced a new bill Thursday to help Butte construct a Southwest Montana Veterans Home.

The bill will reform the VA’s veterans home priority list to give states like Montana an opportunity to secure funding for a veterans home.

Tester’s bill guarantees that projects within the VA’s state home construction grant program, like the Southwest Montana Veterans Home, will not be bypassed on the VA's priority list unless there are immediate safety concerns at other homes.

The VA’s priority list ranks veteran home projects every year based on the state’s total population.

Tester’s bill is co-sponsored by Republican Senator Dean Heller of Nevada.

In addition to the Southwest Montana Veterans Home proposal, Montana currently has two veterans homes in Columbia Falls and Glendive.
