Bozeman schools preparing for state budget cuts

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - Montana Governor Steve Bullock is proposing a school budget cut of more than $10 million, which means trouble for classrooms and the taxpayer’s pockets.

The proposed budget cuts could target technology and other technical classrooms such as auto and wood shop. The school district is aware and they do have a plan in case this proposal is approved.

“We will have to reduce spending a portion of it,” said Steve Johnson, Deputy Superintendent of Operations for Bozeman School Districts. “We will likely have to increase taxes slightly to make up for some of those costs. And then in other cases, we will have to use some of our existing reserves and spend those down, not to an uncomfortable level, but we would obviously hope that in some point in the future we can rebuild those.”
