Vets get free dental care at Smiles for Freedom event

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - A new event in Bozeman is giving free dental appointments to war veterans.

Big Sky Dental Center held its first annual Smiles for Freedom event Saturday, which allowed vets to come in for dental cleanings and checkups free of charge. The only thing required was their veteran I.D.

The practice is normally closed on Saturdays, but staff donated their time--and snow shovels--to open the office and take care of their 25 scheduled patients.

"It's been awesome. We've had multiple grown men in tears, but a lot of really grateful people who have come in, and it's been really great hearing a lot of the stories and talking to them about their service, and it's been really enjoyable getting to show them some thanks for what they did. But there's been a lot of gratitude on both sides, I think," said dentist Jesse McClung.

Big Sky Dental Center says they hope to make Smiles for Freedom an annual event moving forward.
